THE CASE FOR BANCROFT

What You Get That You Might Not Elsewhere.

Work that isn't parcelled out

Our matters cross disciplines, and so do our teams. Associates sit in the room where strategy is set rather than receiving the part of it that has been delegated downward. You will know why the file is being run the way it is.

Two jurisdictions, one firm

Chicago and London give our attorneys exposure to transactions and disputes that span legal systems. For lawyers who want an international practice without leaving the firm to get one, that matters.

Supervision that is actually supervision

Junior lawyers are assigned a partner who reviews their work, explains the revisions, and is accountable for their development.

Clarity about how you're doing

Performance conversations happen on a schedule, not when something goes wrong. You will not have to guess where you stand.

NO VACANCY LISTED?

Write to Us Anyway.

Some of our best hires arrived before the role existed. If you're a qualified attorney whose practice aligns with ours, send a CV and a short note explaining the work you want to be doing in three years — not a summary of your CV in prose.

THE PROCESS

What to Expect.

1. Application review

Every application is read by a person.

2. First conversation

A partner or senior associate from the relevant practice. Thirty to forty-five minutes, focused on your experience and what you're looking for.

3. Written exercise

A short, realistic task — the kind of drafting or analysis the role involves. We pay for exercises that take more than two hours.

4. Final interviews

Two or three attorneys you would work alongside, plus a conversation about terms.

5. Decision

We tell you either way, and we tell you when.

BEFORE QUALIFICATION

Starting Out.

We take a small number of trainees, interns, and paralegals each year, deliberately kept small so each one gets real supervision and real work. If you are still studying and want to understand what this firm actually does before you commit to applying, write to us — we would rather have that conversation early.

Bancroft Law Office is an equal opportunity employer. We consider all applicants without regard to race, colour, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by applicable law in the jurisdictions in which we operate.

We make reasonable adjustments throughout our recruitment process. If you need an adjustment at any stage, tell us when you apply — it will not affect how your application is assessed.

Tell Us What You Want to Be Doing.

Send a CV and a short note. We'll read it properly.
